Bird sunglasses came from a simple idea, the drive to do more. Founder and creator Ed Bird had been looking for a way to combine his design, business and charity skills to create a product that would ‘Look good, but have purpose too.’
“When I heard about the work Solar Aid were doing in remote communities in Africa, I knew I wanted to work with them. It’s about creating a business with purpose; sunglasses that look and feel great, and contribute to a more sustainable world.”
There are many other wooden sunglasses out there, so with our shapes and designs, we’ve tried to bring new artistic detail to classic shapes. We’ve put the utmost care into the manufacturing process. From the materials used, designing our signature feather etching to building ongoing relationships with suppliers and partners we trust.
Polarised lenses reduce glare, enhance colours and sharpen vision. 100% UVA and UVB protection (UV400) comes as standard. And each pair comes with our microsuede cloth, leather strap and either our soft cork or beautiful handmade leather case.
For Bird Sunglasses, business is a family affair. With wife Sarah, and brothers Lawrence, Paul, William and brother-in-law Gary all involved in the company. “I come from a close family of five siblings, and we’re all involved in various creative and business pursuits. It made complete sense to have my brothers on board.”
Unsurprisingly, each wooden sunglasses model is named after a different bird. Names like Finch, Dipper and Kiwi, inspired by our travels across New Zealand, America and the Azores, and adventures at home in Devon.
