Our Blackcap wooden sunglasses won frame of the year 2019. Featuring polarised lenses, 100% UVA protection, sprung hinges and a handmade cork case.
+Frame size: 45-23-138mm (lens, nose, temples)
The Blackcap uses cutting edge technology combining twelve different layers of bamboo, beech, sandal wood and two recycled aluminium layers to make up the core frame. The sleek outlines and varied wood texture mean that every single pair of these sunglasses are truly unique, with a luxury feel that only wood can bring.
Each pair is carefully finished with adjustable acetate temple ends to make the fitting more comfortable. In addition, we’ve used Precision German OBE sprung hinges to give the arms flexibility and to ensure a snug fit.
Ultra-clear polarised lenses
All frames from the Bird Sunglasses Strata range utilize ultra clear polarised lenses in different colour options. These offer 100% UVA protection (UV400), keeping your eyes safe in the sun. This is particularly helpful for when driving, at the beach and during water sports. These frames are prescription ready and can be tailored to suit your needs.

Share your sun
Every pair sold brings the gift of clean and safe light to a family in central Africa through our Share Your Sun partnership with SolarAid.
598 million people in Africa alone have no access to electricity. Without electricity families have no clean source of light, leaving millions to rely on expensive and dangerous alternatives. With a solar light, everything changes. These little lamps are safe, clean and affordable. They give off hours of light in the evening so families can earn, learn and feel safe after dark. Just one lamp can transform the fortunes of an entire family and is the first step on an energy ladder to full electrification.
For each lamp this equates to:
- 4 people reached
- £145 saved in not having to buy fuel
- 1006 hours of extra study time for students and children
- 1.1 tonnes of CO2 emissions averted
- 2 people experiencing better health
